Psalm 3:3 | Be Still: A Devotional Series

“But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,

my glory, and the lifter of my head.”
Psalm 3:3.

Everyone will go through rough times and times of waiting. There will be times in life that leave us desperate. When sorrows are at our door, we have a God who loves us still. We have a God who is always God-He does not take a day off. Psalm 3:3 is where David even calls God “the lifter of (his) head.” That is an awe-inspiring picture of God. When our heads are down cast because of this or that, there is joy in the uplifting hands of God.

God cares for us. We see this in the account of Lazarus, where Jesus, who is God-With-Us, weeps at the loss of his friend. All the while, Jesus knew He would resurrect Lazarus. The legendary preacher Charles Spurgeon once rightly put it “A Jesus who never wept could never wipe away my tears.” Jesus does not just bring someone else’s hope, Jesus is the hope promised by God.

As we walk through the ups and downs, remember that God is our shield and the lifter of our heads. There is joy in the morning. Jesus is the joy in the morning. Be still and wait-The King has already won the battle.
